Really nice couple of nights away. Craig was the perfect host, advice on places to go and places to eat out. Room was large enough but still cosy. The four poster bed was perfect slept like logs.

Friendly and warm - Rating 5/5
We received a warm welcome from Craig upon arrival and after settling in we were invited for a cuppa! Whilst enjoying the tea with a delicious piece of cake we got acquainted and he pointed out some interests in the vicinity. We decided to go to Yat rock which presented us with a breathtaking view over 5 counties. Craig is a super host! We explained him that we as Dutchies use the word nice (lekker) for eg a cup of tea!

Great little B&B - Rating 5/5
Norton house is ideally placed for access to the Wye Valley Forest of Dean. Room was comfortable and the full english breakfasts were top notch. Some good restaurants nearby too. Friendly hosts and informal atmosphere, what's not to like? I've also stayed in one of the attached self catering cottages which was very nice.

Excellent stay - Rating 5/5
My husband and I stayed at Norton House recently for 2 nights and, although our visit was brief, it was a very enjoyable one.Craig couldn't have done more to help us, providing lots of information and advice on where to walk (it was our first time visiting The Wye Valley) and he does make the most delicious muesli and great coffee! We really enjoyed Lynne's creations and the kingfisher I purchased is already delivering memories of our time there. There was only one negative and that was the noise from the nearby road. However this didn't prove to be a big problem for us and it is for this reason we have submitted a 5 star rating.

We travelled from Kent to do some property viewings in the area and had booked a single night stopover at Norton House before returning home the following day. Norton House B&B was perfect as was our hosts Craig and Lynne, very friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was really lovely. The house and grounds is also where Lynne works as a 'Wire Artist' and many beautiful examples of her work are on view and also available to purchase.Would not hesitate to book Norton House again - Perfect!

Excellent place to stay - Rating 5/5
Very comfortable cottage, warm and cosy, very close to good places to go. Good walks from the cottage.Well equipped and very pleasant and helpful owners who live on site, but were not at all intrusive. There were 2 enclosed garden areas on each side where you could sit out. We didn't take our dog, but would have been happy to do so. It felt safe and secure. The steps mentioned wouldn't have caused any problem to most people. The bathroom is not shown on the site but, although small and without a window, is fine.It is close to the main road but is actually on a quiet road, the village is bipassed. There is some traffic noise however, but it wasn't a problem. There is a shop close by, but we didn't investigate anything else in the village. We would certainly stay there again and recommend it to friends.

2 night stay. Clean, warm and comfortable. Craig was an excellent host and chef, greeting us with a fresh pot of tea and cake. Breakfast on both days was freshly cooked, local produce. The house has the added attraction of a gallery showcasing impressive works by Lynne and other local artists. The Potting Shed across the road is excellent. Chef Paul's portions are generous and delicious - try the Welsh lamb and sea bass.On our way back to Wiltshire, Craig had recommended a drive down the Wye valley through Tintern and it's spectacular abbey - not to be missed.

Oozing Quality - Rating 5/5
Greeted with good coffee and home made cake was lovely. Craig noticed I was on a stick and took my bags up to my room while I nommed cake and admired all of the items made by local artisan craftsmen/women. My room was spotlessly clean with a very comfy 4 poster bed and pillows made from fluffy clouds. Breakfast was pure quality with locally sourced sausages, bacon eggs and black pudding. If your in the area this is an ideal base to explore from. There is a fabulous little restaurant called The Potting Shed 2 minutes walk away negating the need to drive after a busy day out and about.

A warm welcome and an excellent breakfast - Rating 5/5
We only stayed for one night en route to a family wedding but would certainly stay again if we are in the area. We were made very welcome by Craig and Lynne and their two gorgeous dogs. Fabulous breakfast. The room was comfortable with a good bathroom. The location is very convenient and there was plenty of information about local attractions and activities. In the evening, weate at The Potting Shed just up the road and, here too, the food and welcome were excellent. The only slight downside is the noise from the traffic on the A40 which is very close. However I don't think we helped ourselves here by having the window wide open all night!

Great 2 Night stay at Norton House - Rating 5/5
Just returned from a 2 night 'Dad & Son' break at Norton House and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We arrived earlier than planned on the 1st day and were met by Lynda with tea and cake which was lovely. For our evening meal we ate at the Old Court Hotel about a 5 min walk away then on the 2nd night we tried the Old Ferry Inn which was great. We kayaked with Wye Adventures on our first full day and had lovely weather. On the 2nd day we visited Clearwell Caves which was really good value for money and very interesting (2 hour visit with coffee in the cafe). We stayed in the Ross Room at Norton House which is a twin with a spacious en suite. The accommodation is lovely, the breakfast was amazing! There is an AA Breakfast Award 2019 certificate displayed in the breakfast room, for good reason.Lynda was always helpful and even got up 'extra early' to accommodate our departure for kayaking. Nothing appeared too much trouble which we were very grateful for. Overall a great place to stay and I will certainly return again in the future for sure. Thanks again Lynda.

Upon arrival at this dog friendly b&b, I was warmly greeted with tea and homemade cake - the start of a wonderful 2 days here.My room was large and sumptuous with every ammenity possible (kettle+various hot drink possibilities, bottle of water, wine glasses+bottle opener, plug-in torch by the bed, etc. & umbrellas & torches near front door if required). An extra benefit at Norton House is a wonderful lounge area for guests which can be used at any time. Breakfasts are incredibly good with an assorted menu for hot dishes and homemade additions at cereal level. I would visit here again in a heartbeat - hope I get the chance again.Thank you Lynda.

Stay at Norton Cottage - Rating 5/5
Right from the start Lynda was friendly and really knowledgeable about the things we asked her about all over a welcome of coffee and lemon drizzle cake made by her that day. The room was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. The breakfasts we had throughout our stay were perfection and the offer of more toast and coffee was always there. This was a brilliant area to visit and Lynda’s knowledge helped us make the most of our short 5 night stay. We would 100 per cent recommend this place and the area in which it sits.

Delightful Stay - Rating 5/5
Norton House lived up to it's description in every way. Full of period character and charm. We were concerned as we arrived that it looked very close to the busy A40 dual carriageway but in fact it is well screened by trees and you are hardly aware of it. We were met by Debbie who welcomed us with tea and cake, and who could not do enough for us during the whole stay. Her breakfasts were outstanding! Nothing to criticise except the Wi-Fi signal wasn't great in our rooms, but it did work. I'd go back anytime!

I travel around quite a bit and some B&Bs can promise so much from their websites and reviews but fail to deliver but not this one!! The welcoming pot of tea and yummy cake was the start of a lovely stay in Ross (twin room). I slept well, despite the A40 not being that far from the property, the bed was so comfy. Breakfast was fab and not for the light of appetite! I had banana pancakes which were superb. I thoroughly recommend (good value for a solo traveller too). Thanks for a great stay.

It’s a nice experience to stay in this house. It’s clean and quiet. The breakfast is freshly made and delicious. I would recommend it highly. It’s a pity there’s no restaurant nearby except an Indian restaurant in 10 min. walk. Also in the mid- night, it’s a bit cold without the heating in my room. Everything else is excellent..

Norton House - Rating 5/5
We've just spent a wonderful couple of nights at Norton House. We were welcomed with a cup of tea and a home made cake and a nice chat with our host Linda who was extremely informative and helpful. Fantastic choice of breakfast set us up for the day (the blueberry pancakes were to die for)not to mention a delicious full English breakfast. It was a very short walk to the Old Court hotel which offered great beer and good food and a most unusually friendly atmosphere. Norton House rooms are fabulously well appointed and comfortable (there was even a shoe horn provided) and the whole place was very attractive clean and smart. Lots of parking and beautiful gardens to sit in. Norton House has the advantage of being situated one minute away from the A40 just on the outskirts of Symmonds Yat and Whitchurch and yet within easy walking distance of both.

We were made so very welcome, the room we stayed in was very comfortable indeed, it had all what was needed in refreshment. The breakfasts were excellent and plentiful. October break - Rating 5/5
Yet again another wonderful stay in the Apple Store. We really look forward to our October week in the glorious Forest of Dean. The cottage is so well equipped with everything you need to self cater. Lynda & David really are lovely people & so helpful. We arrived to a cake and welcome pack to kick off the first cooked breakfast. We were cosy & warm in spite of having some really mixed weather. We walk to Symonds Yat from the doorstep and my husband enjoys a day or two's fishing on the River Wye where he has caught Wye barbel. Monmouth is nearby & also provides the start for good walking & there are lots of lovely shops. If you haven't been try it...you are in for a treat!!

On arriving, a warm welcome from Lynda complete with a tray of tea and home-made cake. A beautiful old house with lots of character, a peaceful place to stay. Our room provided everything we could need-from a large comfy bed and tea tray to a sewing kit and shower hat. Even a corkscrew and glasses for the wine we brought with us!Breakfast of local produce beautifully cooked and a range of choices. We have booked a return visit, next time staying in 'The Apple Store' for a week. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area, a beautiful part of the country. We have stayed at Norton House several times when the previous owners were there and always enjoyed our stay. This is our first visit since Lynda has been running the B&B. We very much enjoyed our stay. Well done Lynda for keeping up the standard previously set by Jayne and Bill. The rooms were lovely and clean, the food tasty and well presented and Lynda was always cheerful and helpful. This is a first class establishment. We hope to visit again next year.

Friendly, clean, homely - Rating 5/5
The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, and made us feel right at home straight away. The room was spacious and clean, with a bowl of fruit as well as the usual tea and coffee provided! Four-poster bed, luxury toiletries and home-made breakfast all a bonus. Location in Ross is great for getting around (though taxis couldn't find us!!), with a corner shop close by, and despite the main road nearby, we couldn't hear a thing when inside the room. Highly recommended.

Congenial! - Rating 4/5
A super place to lay one's head. Comfortable and quiet (a big plus for me; the A40 is near, but not at all obtrusive). Superb breakfasts. Nice touches, such as a tempting cake in the cosy lounge ('help yourself'). Plenty of literature about local things to do. Very friendly, though the owners never hover around one at breakfast (as some B&B folk are wont to do!).
Response
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed Norton House and hope see you again. Lynda

Fantastic B & B - Rating 5/5
We stopped at Norton House for one night en route to South Wales. Norton House is a beautiful character house, very homely with every need catered for by the very friendly owners. We were made very welcome with tea and cakes provided on arrival, even though we were quite late arriving in the evening. Our room was extremely comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was delicious with a lovely variety on offer. We will certainly stay here again when we next travel to South Wales.

Well worth a visit! - Rating 5/5
I stayed two nights and had the Monmouth King room. Arriving late after rehearsing at a nearby concert hall the place was quite difficult to find in the dark but the effort was amply rewarded. I was welcomed with a much-needed pot of coffee and some delicious cakes. The room was pleasantly just warm enough, very comfortable and perfect for a very tired traveller. Breakfast was magnificent on both mornings and one really didn't need lunch afterwards. This is probably not one of the cheaper accommodation prospects in the area but you get what you pay for. Strongly recommended!

Best B&B - Rating 5/5
Norton House is an exceptionally good B&B and highly recommended. Very clear directions to get there and lovely welcome with tea and cake- this is ideal after a long drive. Rooms (Ross and Doward)have character and are spacious, comfortable and well equipped with lots of extras including:tea/coffee/fairtrade hot chocolate, mineral water, biscuits, fruit, toiletries, hairdryer, fan, hot water bottles, TV and radio. Lovely cosy lounge with fireplace, books, newspapers, games. Every afternoon/evening homemade cakes were left out for guests to help themselves. The lemon cake, brownies and flapjacks were all delicious and lovely to return to after a day out. There was a good collection of maps and local information leaflets.Breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit, cereals (about 15 types), yoghurt, dried fruit, juices, homemade bread/toast, homemade jams, plentiful tea/coffee and then delicious full English cooked to order or alternative cooked choice. The banana pancakes with maple syrup were lovely and came in very generous portions - great to have after an early morning run! The owners (Jayne and Bill) are very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the local area and gave good advice about the many things to see and do. We enjoyed walking on Doward Hill and by the Wye, Symmonds Yat, Ross on Wye, Llanthony Priory/ Capel y Finn route to Hay, visiting Hay, and the Golden Valley. Easy to park and free wi-fi. Locationis great; very quiet, nice walks from door, easy to walk to river and pubs for evening meals (Old Court Hotel and Ferryman Inn both very good)but also convenient for A40. House is attractive with stream in garden. Wye valley is beautiful and good for walking. We stayed 3 nights in May but it would also be cosy and comfortable in winter. We chose Norton House partly on the basis of its good reviews and it certainly lived up to and even surpassed them.

From the moment I arrived for my short overnight stay and went in through the front door I knew I'd made a good choice. The house is lovely and I received a warm and friendly welcome. The room was beautifully prepared and comfortable, and I left next morning after a wonderful wholesome breakfast. Certainly one of the nicest B&Bs I've experienced.

Hello, sorry for the delay in replying as we have had a really busy week since our return. We would like to say that we had a fabulous weekend staying with you and your hospitality and friendliness towards us, not to mention the best home cooked breakfast ever and the most comfortable bedrooms of an exceptionally high standard, exceeded all of our expectations. We loved the lounge and dining room too. So nice to be able to have so many relaxing places in which to unwind and feel totally comfortable. The tea and cake on arrival and the lovely fires were exqusite. We had a really special weekend planned in Whitchurch for a family gathering and to celebrate my brother's 50th birthday and our stay at Norton House just made our weekend and time together. We would have no hesitation in staying with you again or recommending you to our friends and family. You just got it right in so many ways! Kind regards Nick, Gill & Alan x PS Thank you so much also for letting us leave a wee bit later on the Sunday morning, so much appreciated as we were all very tired!

Our weekend at norton house house - Rating 5/5
Just came back from a weekend away staying at norton house, it was excellent Jane and Bill are both very friendly and helpful, there is nothing we can fault at all with them or their house. The rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic and the homemade cakes and hot drinks on arrival were a great added touch along with the chocolate brownies the following afternoon which were left on the table for guests which we had on our return from a long bike ride which went down a treat. We could not recommend here to stay highly enough.Theresa and Mark Taylor

Recently had a lovely 2 day stay at Norton House.Particularly helpful and welcoming hosts Jayne & Bill.Greeted by a homemade cake and tea on arrival.Breakfast was perfect. We had access to a seperate guest lounge which was cosy.Bedroom we stayed in called the Monmouth room has a very comfotable king bed, overlooking the busy A40 which was gives easy access to touring the Symmonds Yat rock, Forest of Dean area and Wales. My husband found out by chance and helpful sat nav postcode from Jayne, that the property is within 5 miles of a famous an very elete carp fishing site called Redmire pool; but it is very difficult to find and booking to do any fishing is through their own website only. It was very mysterious, as we were not even allowed to have a 5 minute look at the pool! There are plenty of nice pubs in the area for meals and menus for these are in the guest lounge.

Norton House, Ross-on-Wye - Rating 5/5
My family stopped at Norton for two nights last week-end.We were warmly welcome by the owner and offered us exceptionally good care during our stay.We enjoyed the typical English B&B breakfast which are cooked by the owner, Bill and Jean and the ambiance of our accommodation, the King Size bed room.It is well decorated with typical English farm house decor. We were also impressed by the amount of courtesy extended to us.My daughter, a young architect, was even fond of the architecture of the buildings and the garden. I will certainly return to Norton if I visit Monmouth again and I have no hesitation to recommend to my friends and family if they want accommodation in Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye and nearby.Overall, Norton is a successful and well managed B&B.Julian Leung

I happily recommend Norton house as a lovely B&S to stay at, in a beautiful part of the UK.We stayed in a really nice room in the old part of the house (built in the 1600's I think). The room was well furnished, and comfortable. We were offered tea and cake on arrival, and lovely home made muffins on the following day. The breakfasts were great (try the American Blueberry pancakes!). And our hosts were also really nice and helpful - providing local guide books and help with directions and traffic conditions. Also the location was fabulous - right next to the amazingly senic River Wye, and neighbouring Ross On Wye and Monmouth.A fantastic, and well priced place to stay.

Norton House, Whitchurch, Ross on Wye. - Rating 5/5
With the sun shining and a long weekend ahead of us, all we needed was a high quality place to stay the night. And that is exactly what we found at Norton House. Jayne and Bill were the perfect host and hostess and they made both of us feel welcome. The standard of accommodation was of good quality and helped us feel relaxed. Bill advised us of the local pubs and restaurants and on his recommendation we headed off to the Saracens Head at Symonds Yat East. Good food but at half term rather a lot of kids orming round the pub. However when we got back to Norton House the atmosphere was calm and relaxed and after a good night's sleep we enjoyed an excellent full English, courtesy of Jayne. I can strongly recommend this B and B and it certainly deserves a 5 star rating.Peter and Corinne

Dear Jayne and BillMany thanks for your hospitalityover the past 24 hours - and especially too for your help this morning sorting out our little problem with the car and for your kindnesses towards my father. It was much appreciated. And, while we didn't make today's session of the re-union, we did enjoy a little time at Tintern Abbey and Chepstow Castle on our way back, complete with new tyre.Best wishesKarin

Perfect weekend break - Rating 5/5
We have just returned from a lovely two night stay at Norton House.Bill and Jayne were the perfect hosts - very friendly and helpful with tips on local walks, places to eat, as well as leaving lovely treats for the guests in the lounge such as home baked brownies! Jayne's breakfasts were delicious and there is plenty of choice of what you'd like to eat. The bedrooms are very cosy and comfortable and it's like a home away from home feel which is perfect for a relaxing break. There are plenty of stunning country and river walks nearby, and a trip to Monmouth or Ross-on-Wye is only a 5 minute drive away, where there are many good eateries.Bill can advise you on local pubs which serve great evening meals within walking distance if you don't want to drive too.Tintern is only a few miles south; a truly stunning setting next to the river, with the Abbey an interesting and pretty excursion well worth a few hours.I can't recommend Norton House highly enough for a perfect break in beautiful surroundings with perfect hosts.

overnight stay - Rating 5/5
We only had an overnight stay but will most certainly be back again. We were welcomed with friendly smiles, pots of tea and chocolate brownies still warm from the oven. Our room was spotlessly clean, the 4 poster bed was wonderfully comfortable and the view across the valley was beautiful. Breakfast next morning was excellent with all local and freerange produce. We look forward to our next stay and hope it will be for longer.
